Conversations at Christmas

I’ve been better, began Colin standing behind his gate, leaning on it. It’s my knees, they do not carry my weight anymore. And they tell me I’ve been a heavy smoker. I read the Oak Papers, that ultra Thoreau: by my intimacy with nature I find myself withdrawn from man. My interest in the sun and the moon in the morning and the evening compels me to solitude.

The tendency to withdraw, in this period of mass connection.
