Kevin and I listened to Ed Miliband giving his statement on UK plans to sanction Israel and the debate that followed – reaching the same point: at last, intelligent and useful debate in that otherwise fight ring of the commons. Not only was his debate well formed and delivered with a measured passion, but the debate that followed, his answer to all the challenges, respectful and clear.

Jeremy Bowman on world service: The overwhelming opinion in Israel is against a Palestinian state. Millibands attempt to square the circle by saying it is not about state of Israel it is about the actions of the government. May not be accepted by majority in Israel. But Israel is even more isolated than before.
Milliband UK had a moral historical and geopolitical responsibility. Bad not only for Israel security and the region, – well known for exporting trouble. Whats changed since October, all artifice has gone. No pretense of aiming for Palestinian state.
Milliband language was stripped bare of diplomatic fudge: ethnic cleansing, (Stammer did an interview that he agreed Israel could cut off food and water to Gaza)
Is the two state an empty slogan? Milliband tried to bring it back. The silence of many years while at the same time saying 2 state solution, made them complicitous.
