100 Foot Journey – Cut Film

Wednesday 15th April

Another Helen Mirren, and equally enjoyable – not by all, David found it far too sentimental and obvious. But Sal and I did. Sal is my woodlands first harvester. Barry turned up some time late. I loved those French dishevelled homes. There was little of India except in the father, a far better counter to Helen Mirren than the goofy solicitor in Woman in Gold. He was the best, with this imperfect fungi like nose, his plastic table cloths, and Mumbai Mahal with the U in Mumbai forever faulty. The rebuke of the worship of Michelin stars turns into respect, as the Haute of Madm Helen Mirren softens to the unexpected equal stubborn ox of an Indian.
Wonderful food prepared by the lovely Imo. Irresistible. The family gathered, Sal and Nicky, Gill Perkins, the friend from Southwold who I haven’t seen since we had that magic evening together, drinking red wine and laying out our souls.
With Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal, Charlotte Le Bon. Produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey for DreamWorks Pictures 2014
