Trees grow against two forces one is wind the other is gravity…both forces have an impact on the formation of the tree as each tree goes according to their species, location and those two forces. Trees don’t grow beyond their limits…that includes their height and lateral growth…..for example the length of lateral branches won’t grow beyond the minimum lever arm theory….imagine holding a bag at arms length for as long as possible to counter the weight you begin to lean backwards (reaction growth in trees). As for twisted trees that a phenomenon called thigmomorphogensis….trees effected by multi-directional wind!
