Nautilus objections

I strongly object to the NAUTILUS project connecting at Friston on these grounds.

1. Overwhelming cumulative impacts from National Grids proposed Sea Link, Lionlink and Nautilus and EDF Energy’s Sizewell C will detrimentally affect East Suffolk communities, loss of visitors and destroy our heritage coast and environment.

2. OFGEM are aiding, without consultation or consideration of cumulative effects the imposition of an Industrial Energy Super Hub onto our countryside.

3. The initial planning consent for Friston Substation was granted to take Scottish Power’s EA1North and EA2 projects ONLY. This did not include Sea Link, Lionlink and now Nautilus with their associated converter stations in Saxmundham, blighting our rural towns and surrounding countryside.

4. OFGEM’S costings assume that everything will be connected at Friston, but this connection point is still only theoretical. Ofgem should reconsider Nautilus and allow it to proceed to the Isle of Grain to prevent the decimation of East Suffolks landscape, environment, ecology and socio-economic viability of our areas. Moreover, the entire threat of ALL National Grid projects could entirely be negated by an offshore grid/mesh in the North Sea, pooling energy to brownfield sites closer to demand. The constraint costs for Nautilus could be shared with Sea Link and Lionlink in upgrading the network at Grain if all 3 projects co-locate there.
