An email from John 2023: Dear Rachel, A little late but I hope still welcome, I shd like to thank you for letting me participate in your Sunday gatherings in the wood and hope I shall still be around for the next one. As you may know, I have now been officially told that I have Alzheimer’s disease, and the effects of that are well documented. I am not sure about when it was given that name – presumably because Mr A had hand in the study of the disease. What I do think now is that my father had it – I remember that after he retired in 1945 from his last job of one of 4 Assistant Director of Medical Services in the Indian Medical Services he was clearly not what he had been mentally. He died in 1979 at the age of 70. On 8 December, deus vult , I shall be 90, 20 year more than him. But then I have had the benefit of air conditioning and not just blocks of ice cut from the mountain and carried down to the Indian plains on donkies or cooly’s backs. Best wishes and see you soon I hope.
